Instant Pot Corned Beef and Cabbage

Costco has corned beef now!

Rinse the corned beef and put in the Insta Pot with 2 cups water.  You can add an onion cut in big chunks and some bay leaves but they are optional.  Use the Manual Setting and set for 90 minutes.  Let pressure naturally release or use quick release.  Spoon out the beef and fish out the onion and bay leaves with a slotted spoon.

Add a whole cabbage chopped loosely to the liquid left in the pot.  Use the Saute Setting and then press the Adjust button to move temperature from Normal to More.  Boil until desired doneness of the cabbage.

I love Rueben sandwiches so I will be cooking corned beef until I can't buy it.

Rye bread brushed with butter or mayo
Thousand Island Dressing
Swiss Cheese
Corned Beef
Sauerkraut (my favorite is Hengstenberg Bavarian Style.  On the isle, not refrigerated)

Grill and enjoy!

Instant Pot Steel Cut Oatmeal

Steel Cut Oatmeal

3 Cups Steel Cut Oates
1 1/4 teaspoons salt
7 cups water

Add everything to the Instant Pot and set Manual button to 10 minutes.  I let it release pressure naturally (about 5 minutes) but you don't have to. Stir well.  I put it in containers in the fridge and use it every morning for breakfast with some frozen blueberries.  To warm it up I add some water and put my bowl in the microwave for 1 1/2 minutes and stir it up well.  It is faster than cold cereal.

Instant Pot Chicken Noodle Soup

I just got an Instant Pot for Christmas and I am going to keep track of my recipes here.
I used my Chicken Noodle Soup recipe first .

Chicken Noodle Soup

Soup:
1 whole chicken
2 onions, cut in big pieces
2 stalks celery, cut in big pieces
1-tablespoon salt
1/4-teaspoon pepper
1 1/2 quarts water-approximately (if you fill to the MAX line, it will be too full)

Noodles:
2 eggs
4 tablespoons water
1/2-teaspoon salt
1/4-teaspoon pepper
2 cups flour

Put all soup ingredients in the Instant Pot with the chicken on the bottom.  Set the Manual button to 45 minutes. I let it cool naturally but you can quick-release the pressure manually.  The quick release can make a mess, so put a wash cloth over the release button and check the little drain often or you will have a big mess like I did.  I had a 6 pound chicken and filled it to the Max line and it was too much, but it was still good, just made a mess.

Take out the chicken and let it cool on a plate.  Strain broth in a colander over a pan and discard vegetables.  Pick chicken off the bones and set aside.  Make noodles--beat eggs, water, salt and pepper with a fork.  Gradually add flour.  Knead slightly.  Roll out with flour on counter and cut into strips.  Add to broth which has been put back in the Instant Pot.  Press the Saute Setting and then the Adjust button to move temperature from Normal to More.  Boil until noodles are done (about 10 min).  Add the chicken back into the soup and serve.

Day 11-Ophel, Western Wall, Jewish Quarter, Hezekiah's Broad Wall, Roman Cardo, City of David, Hezekiah's Tunnel, Pool of Siloam

The Romans in 70 AD threw the huge rocks from the Temple down to the street below.  Nothing was left on the mount fulfilling prophecy.  Those rocks are huge.

The Jesus Steps.  For sure Jesus walked and taught on these steps.

Some guys were filming and had this huge boom with a huge gimbal.

Western Wall-Bar Miztvah-Bat Miztvah day.

Candy store.

I was going through a turn style with this.  I could have reached out and touched it.

The Cardo

T-shirt I saw for sale.

Jewish (Western Wall), Islam (Dome of the Rock) and Mormon (Jerusalem Center)

Acres and acres of graves on the hill.  There are so many, it just looks like white stone.

Going down into Hezekiah's Tunnel.  A 2700 year old water system carved though the steep hill in the time of  Isaiah.  I was light headed and my knees were shaking but I did not want to miss this.  I was first in line after Blair.  I looked at his feet most of the way.  It is 1/3 of a mile of deep underground cave about 28 inches wide and 5-6 feet high with lower and tighter places.  I have never been in a cave before.  It took about 45 minutes walking in clean 6-16 inches of water.  Mark was nervous too but did very well until they had all of us turn off our headlamps. I just closed my eyes.  It was pitch black.  We sang a song and then kept on moving.  There were other groups there but we walked at a pretty good pace and didn't have to stand in the tunnel waiting for anyone.  I would have fainted for sure if I had had to wait.  I kept telling Mark to listen for me to say,  "catch me" in case I fainted. He stayed right in back of me.  Not like anyone could have passed anyone though.

So happy that I did it.  Mark said my kids would be proud of me.  I am proud of me.

The cave empties into the Poll of Siloam where Jesus healed the blind man.  They just uncovered this spot 10 years ago.  Pretty amazing that important ruins are still being discovered all over Jerusalem.  They found the pool when they were repairing a sewer.

Stones that were here when Jesus was here.
