Seabourn Odessey - Day 12

It got very windy and rough last night and today we docked at a different city because of the higher winds. It was quite the spectacle to watch us try to dock in Agostoli, Greece instead of Fishardho, Greece. There were two Greeks on the dock and two in a motor boat trying to catch the guide rope thrown from the ship to the dock trying to anchor. They would catch it and then it would get away from them. They caught it on the motor boat and then before they could secure it or get the larger rope, it would snap. Our whole side of the boat was out on the balconies, cheering and groaning as we watched. The Captain was whistling and making hand gestures from the bridge, but the men did not see him or listen to him. The wind continued to blow and the waves continued to surge and finally the big ropes were on the giant cleats. The guy next door said, "There are the last two employed men in Greece". It was quite funny to watch actually. The pictures do not do it justice.

We decided to take a day off from sightseeing and stay on the ship. We ate and watched a movie and then ate and then did the laundry and ate and talked with people and ate and then got ready for dinner with at the assistant cruise director. That was interesting as our new friends, the Hammers were also guests at the same table. Kevin the director was more interested in himself than in us, but the food was excellent and the Hammers delightful company. This is what we ate for dinner:
Snow crab and avocado salad
Red carrot and curry potage (soup) with shrimp dumplings
Grilled lobster stuffed calamari with english pea purée,morel, and tarragon jus
Dessert - creme brûlée and Mark had ice cream with lots of chocolate sauce (you can't put on too much)
