Day 10 - Seabourn Cruise Ship - Split Croatia

We woke up to a beautiful Adriatic Sea turning into the harbor of Split Croatia. We climbed up Marjan Hill to the left of the harbor. It was not quite Schonreid, but it was interesting. Lots of stairs and cement pathways. At the top we had a wonderful view of the whole area. A couple asked us to take their picture and we found out they were from Zagrab. We really enjoyed speaking with them about their homeland. Mark asked about skiing since he has sold many systems to the Croatian National Ski Team. They didn't know about that, but they brought up the Kostalich siblings and we told them we knew all about them and had seen them in the Salt Lake Olympics. Skiing is truly the international language. The Soviet influence was very obvious and I really have to wonder where this small country would be now if they had been free. The couple told us that they had only had cars for ten years. I kept thinking of my nephew Colby being on his mission here several years ago.

You can see the old Soviet block housing in the distance. Some were abandoned. Ugly, ugly, ugly.

We came back to the ship and had lunch and sat in he semi-warm hot tub for a few hours talking with a business man from Munich owned and ran shredding company in Russia and A couple from Florida who owned several eye surgical centers. Such very interesting people. Out of 450 people, there are 30 countries represented. Most speak English. Everyone is very friendly.
