We woke up to a wonderful sunlit morning highlighting the glorious Swiss Alps right out our window. After a leisurely breakfast, we headed out to explore the area with Johny at the wheel. Along with running the ski school, he races cars, so it is always interesting to drive with him especially on path-size mountain roads. We headed up over the steep mountains dotted with cheese houses and very well groomed cows. We seemed to be going nowhere in particular, just enjoying the most beautiful drive pulling over into the pasture if another car or mountain bike was encountered. We stopped to stretch and low and behold, there was a hidden high mountain lake, Seebergsee. We took too many pictures and hiked back to the car for another ride down into another valley where one could find the Eiger and the Young Frau. How could one vista be more incredible than another? We stopped again, this time at the Blausee, and hiked again to a beautiful blue green clear mountian lake where you could see all the trout swimming around the whole lake. It reminded me of Lake Morain in Canada near Lake Louise. The hike around the lake felt like we were in a Lord of the Rings forest, big mossy rocks and too many colors of green. By now my senses are bordering on overload if that is possible. We headed back to "somewhere in nowhere" as Johny would say and came to a very interesting restaurant for dinner. It was the most eclectic place I have ever seen. The old cheese house high on a very steep mountain with very pretty cows, some pigs and donkeys, along with a playground that had two tree houses, a zip line, a pool and anything else one could imagine along with a grass helicopter pad and helicopter to ferry guests back down the mountain. The food was wonderful and served under a giant umbrella on large wooden handmade pick nick tables. We drove back to the Chalet and to bed after a fabulous day in the Alps.
Breakfast - Wonderful local cheeses, yogurt, braided bread with homemade raspberry jam, oj, ovalmatine, and Mark added fried eggs
Lunch - a salad and Rivella at the restaurant at Blausee
Dinner - a caprese salad, a grilled pork chop with rosti potatoes and roasted whole new potatoes. Barbara ordered a horse steak and I tasted it and it was really good, like a sweet filet (a first for me). We finished it off with vanilla and cherry gelato. MMMMMMM, everything was very good.
